Full Membership
OVERVIEW
Overview Full Membership with American Therapy Pets (ATP) means you and your pet have met all the screening, testing and evaluation standards to be certified by ATP as a Therapy Pet Team. This process evaluates the skills of the pet and handler, including responsible pet ownership, pet handling, pet temperament, good manners and control. Becoming eligible for full membership is unique to a small number of pets and handlers.
GENERAL PROCESS
The full member application process is completed in three steps.
Step 1: Read the membership requirements and complete full member application.
You and your pet must be able to perform the skills outlined in the membership requirements. These are the skills that may be used during your American Therapy Pet (ATP) evaluation. Download the membership requirements here.
Complete and submit your full member ATP application.
Step 2: Complete the background check, American Kennel Club CGC Certification and ATP Evaluation.
Successful applicants will be asked to complete a background check, AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification (CGC) and ATP evaluation. Instructions will be provided to those who pass the initial application screening in Step 1.
Step 3: Read and sign the policy and procedures and volunteer waiver.
The ATP policy and procedures and volunteer waiver will be included with your Step 2 information. When you have successfully completed the full member application process, look for your Welcome Package to arrive in 7-10 days.
Associate Membership
OVERVIEW
Associate Membership is available to those who don’t have a therapy pet, are not involved in ATP visits or other activities, and would like to financially support American Therapy Pets. Associate members may be a relative, spouse or friend of a full member, or simply someone who likes what ATP does and wishes to show their support.
GENERAL PROCESS
Step 1: Complete and submit the Associate Member Application.
Successful applicants will be provided additional information necessary to complete steps 2 and 3.
Step 2: Read and agree to ATP’s Policy and Procedures.
Step 3: Read and complete the Volunteer Waiver form.
Once you have completed steps 2 and 3, return your signed policy and procedures and waiver forms.
Volunteer Membership
OVERVIEW
Volunteer membership is offered to those who wish to give back to their community by volunteering to help ATP whenever needed. This could include administrative support, helping at events or any other occasion where an extra set of hands would be welcome.
GENERAL PROCESS
The volunteer membership requires three steps in order to complete the process.
Step 1: Complete and submit the Volunteer Member Application.
Successful applicants will be provided additional information necessary to complete steps two and three.
Step 2: Read and agree to ATP’s Policy and Procedures.
Step 3: Read and complete the Volunteer Waiver form.
Once you have completed steps 2 and 3, return your signed policy and procedures and waiver forms.
